ARCH1101 Week 1 pt1
A great piece of architecture...
The 'Tongkonan' is the name given to the houses that are constructed by the Toraja people in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Its most distinguishing feature is the structure's overwhelming, curved roof. Like many ancient forms of architecture, the 'Tongkonan' was designed with particular focus on functionality and simplicity. The interior space is much smaller, as its primary use was for rest and sleep, while the majority of daily duties and activities were conducted outside.
Something beautiful...
This is a photograph of an Isaac Newton snow sculpture in Harbin, China. Every year, for the duration of the winter months, numerous groups of artists produce ice and snow sculptures, as part of the annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival.
